What's up!  It's Thursday morning and the party's jumping.  The bass line bumping and the DJ's yelling "Peanut Butter Wolf!"

Yeah, I don't know either, but I swear I've heard that in a song before though.  Kevin Figueroa would know.  Anywho, it's times to talk about our next Spanspek band!  This time it's all about Visalia purveyors of latin grooves Mezcal!
Here's a little bit about the band, as listed on their website:

Born out of the belly of the San Joaquin Valley, Mezcal has been entertaining audiences across the state for the past ten years.  Their Latin groove's have taken them from Visalia’s annual Dia Del Nino Celebration at the Manuel Hernandez Center to Las Vegas for the nationally televised America’s Next Great American Band.  Out of over 10,000 acts, Mezcal was chosen as one of the top 60 bands for the FOX series. They have shared the stage with the likes of Malo, El Chicano, Tierra, and Poncho Sanchez.

Mezcal has kept their audiences moving to their mix of Rock and Afro-Cuban rhythms. In addition, Mezcal participates in community events to support local youth and migrant farm workers through volunteer work and music workshops/performances.  Their involvement with organizations like CASA, Sound & Vision Foundation, and other groups has helped raise funds and/or spread awareness for the enrichment of community interests.

There you have it folks, a great band with a heart of gold!  We're proud and delighted that they're joining us in Orosi this year!  I can't wait to witness all the dancing their vivacious sounds will inspire!

See what I mean!?  It's going to be the crazies!

You can listen to more of Mezcal's music by going to their website, visiting their Soundcloud page, or by purchasing their most recent album Foreclosure on iTunes!

Thanks and we'll see you tomorrow at Tokyo Garden for our final fundraiser show of the year!

Spanspek's Favorite Music of 2016 - Mike Oz

Hey! We got another blog for you! This is unprecedented! It's from Fresno renaissance man Mike Oz!  A lot of your faithful readers know who this dude is, but for those who don't Mike Oz covers baseball at Yahoo Sports, hosts Ozmosis on New Rock 104.1 and organizes Fresno-area events such as Taco Truck Throwdown, FresYes Fest and Tacos, Brews & Jams. Before all that, he wrote about music and pop culture at The Fresno Bee for 10 years. Follow him on social media, @mikeoz.  See, he's legit.

But before we get to his picks please consider donating to Spanspek by going to the TULARE COUNTY ARTS CONSORTIUM WEBSITE and clicking on the link at the bottom of the page.  All donations go to our scholarship fund and help us keep doing our podcast, blog, and music festival! Any amount helps!

Oh and by the way, be sure to hit up Mike's Tacos, Brews, and Jams event tonight at the Tioga-Sequoia Brewery!
Thanks and lets see what Mike Oz likes!

Spanspek's Favorite Music of 2016 - Local Albums

What's up! This is it folks, we made it to the end of another year! And what a doozy it was. We saw a few local venues call it quits and some come under intense scrutiny by parties both well intentioned and not. Yet we also got to see a bunch of young bands flourish and a few old timers up and tour the country. It seems like the local scene is at a point of transition. And that's kinda of scary. But it can be exciting too. I'm hoping for more of the latter in 2017.

Ok, so on this last post we're gonna share our favorite local albums of 2016.  It's my favorite blog to write (though it takes for damn ever to do) and I'm looking forward to hear what y'all think!  But before we get to that Spanspek Co-Founder Israel Flores and myself would like to thank everyone  that has supported Spanspek this year. You are all really cool people and without your support we couldn't do any of this!  So THANK YOU! And you know, if you want to kick a few scrills our way to h…
