Thank You To Everyone In the Universe

Good morning people of Middle Earth!  We've made it through the Desolation of Smaug intact, ready to take the journey home to await our next adventure!  Seriously yo, I don't know if it shows, but I can't wait for The Hobbit to come out.

So yes, we've made it through another year of Spanspek!  And a great time was had by all!  Everything went off without a hitch.  Sure, there was a giant golden "50" hanging from the ceiling, but that just added to the atmosphere.  It was one of the most positive events I'd ever been too, and I hope all of you in attendance felt the same way.

Ofcourse, we couldn't have done any of this without the help of many people.  The bands and robots provided great music for all the audiophiles in attendance.  The artists wowed with their artwork.  And all the volunteers ensured that everything went smoothly.  You dedicated group of folks gave your time and energy to this festival and we are forever greatful.  Spanspek wouldn't happen every year if it weren't for your support!.  To each of you we extend a heartfelt thanks!

A thank you as well to the businesses and people who donated to Spanspek.  Ralph Alvarez (owner of the Pizza Planet franchise), Yvonne Shipley (of Sloppy Stitches by Tron), and Ryan Adams each donated to the festival.  Thank you so much for your help!  You all are awesome!

And lastly thank you to everyone that came out to the event.  It seems like a cliche, and I guess it is, but we do this for you.  There's no better site than seeing a group of children happily drawing with their parents by their side.  Or watching an audience go nuts when a robot DJ starts playing some beats.  Its a rewarding experience and one that keeps us striving to create a bigger and better festival each year.  Many thanks to you!

And that's it.  In the days to come we'll try to compile photos and videos of Spanspek for all to see.  If you've got anything to share, please let us know via our Facebook, Twitter, or website.  Thank you again for everything and we'll see you again next year!

Spanspek's Favorite Music of 2016 - Mike Oz

Hey! We got another blog for you! This is unprecedented! It's from Fresno renaissance man Mike Oz!  A lot of your faithful readers know who this dude is, but for those who don't Mike Oz covers baseball at Yahoo Sports, hosts Ozmosis on New Rock 104.1 and organizes Fresno-area events such as Taco Truck Throwdown, FresYes Fest and Tacos, Brews & Jams. Before all that, he wrote about music and pop culture at The Fresno Bee for 10 years. Follow him on social media, @mikeoz.  See, he's legit.

But before we get to his picks please consider donating to Spanspek by going to the TULARE COUNTY ARTS CONSORTIUM WEBSITE and clicking on the link at the bottom of the page.  All donations go to our scholarship fund and help us keep doing our podcast, blog, and music festival! Any amount helps!

Oh and by the way, be sure to hit up Mike's Tacos, Brews, and Jams event tonight at the Tioga-Sequoia Brewery!
Thanks and lets see what Mike Oz likes!

Spanspek's Favorite Music of 2016 - Local Albums

What's up! This is it folks, we made it to the end of another year! And what a doozy it was. We saw a few local venues call it quits and some come under intense scrutiny by parties both well intentioned and not. Yet we also got to see a bunch of young bands flourish and a few old timers up and tour the country. It seems like the local scene is at a point of transition. And that's kinda of scary. But it can be exciting too. I'm hoping for more of the latter in 2017.

Ok, so on this last post we're gonna share our favorite local albums of 2016.  It's my favorite blog to write (though it takes for damn ever to do) and I'm looking forward to hear what y'all think!  But before we get to that Spanspek Co-Founder Israel Flores and myself would like to thank everyone  that has supported Spanspek this year. You are all really cool people and without your support we couldn't do any of this!  So THANK YOU! And you know, if you want to kick a few scrills our way to h…
