Locals Only Album Review: Favorite Child - Collection A

Hello people of Earth! I hope this Friday finds you ready to party it up blueberry style! Hehe, that's an A Bugs Life reference for all the people in the know. Hopefully it's not just me. Cause that would be kind of sad. Well...more like actually sad. Hey look at that, an album review!

O.k. folks, take a listen to Collection A (Plastic Skull Records), the new EP from Fresno band Favorite Child!
Collection A by Favorite ChildI don't know if its my age or what, but when it comes to the "Screamo" genre, there is little love lost. I've think I've always just felt the music to be more manufactured than heartfelt. So you can imagine my surprise when I fell in love with the fantastic Collection A EP by self described screamo/pop/punk band Favorite Child. Throughout its three noise and fury filled songs, the group injects passion and tunefulness into a genre I…

Locals Only Album Review: Cockamamie Jamie - Survivor Series

Good morning again folks! How's it going? Have you all saved October 4, 2013 on your calendars?! Well you haven't yet you should because that's when we'll be celebrating our 8th annual Spanspek Music and Arts Festival! It's going to be the crazies! In the meantime, if you've got any band or artist suggestions, please send them over to spanspekfestival@gmail.com! We also have a Hotmail account, but that's getting kind of embarrassing now.

Anywho, enough of that e-mail nonsense. Lets talk about the fantastic solo debut by Fresno rapper Cockamamie Jamie!
Survivor Series by Cockamamie JamieSurvivor Series, the solo debut from Argyle Pimps member Cockamamie Jamie, sounds like what Herb Alpert & the Tijuana Brass would have played had Alpert suffered from an overactive imagination, was obsessed with pro wrestling, and picked up a…

Locals Only: Light Thieves "Crystal Maps" Single & Video

Hello people of the Shire! How was your Mother's Day? Filled with memories of that one time you were playing center field in a Little League game and got beamed in the noggin by a fly ball only to have your tears wiped away by your Mama. Or is that just me? [cue Tupac's "Dear Mama"] Excuse me, I've got something in my eye.

So yes, now that Mother's Day is over, it's time to get back to the business of blogging. And I'm excited to do so because the weekend saw the release of some serious local releases. Music that has been hyped by quite a few people on our Twitter feed (@spanspekfest incase you want to follow us). And I'm happy to say that the music does not disappoint!

The first new track comes from Fresno heavy hitters Light Thieves!

The group is in the midst of raising money for their Spirit Homes album release after some assholes robbed their rehearsal space (to donate visit their Indiegogo page). "Crystal Maps" is the firs…

Locals Only: Fatty Cakes "Puff Patries" video, Insidethesun, and tacos

Remember when I used to blog a lot? Those were good times!

Needless to say it's been a while since I've been able to write to you all. Sometimes you've got all the time in the world to write about music. And sometimes life just decides to kick you in the balls.

But all is well again and that means it's time to write about some local music! Now, I'm pretty hungry right now, so this is gonna be more of a general overview of some of the stuff that's caught my eye. First up, here's the new video from Fresno one-woman band Fatty Cakes!
There's no much to say about the "Puff Patries" video other than that it is audacious, it probably gives anyone who watches it diabetes, and it increases my love for Fatty Cakes tenfold. The show this video was promoting has since passed, but you can follow her at the links below to get the latest news on all things Fatty Cakes:

Next up, the stoner metal stylings of Fresno/Coarsegold natives Ins…
